PHILOSOPHY
Jessica Lavenda; the performer, creator, educator, and advocate for all things art.
I do the art I do, because it is what I am meant to do. I am trained in classical ballet and various modern techniques, while also delving into multiple styles of Tap, Contemporary, Jazz and Musical Theatre. Movement exploration with a technical background is just a touch of what I give to this world. I am a performer with artistic and creative abilities. Bringing other people’s visions to life is a key value in my mission as an artist. I provide audiences with performances that show progression in the growth of this art form, while challenging my body and mind in the making. I am a receptive dancer, especially to the artists I work with. I pride myself on listening and making changes based on instruction of those I work with. Topics of stage designs, videography, history and anatomy continue to contribute to my place in this field. The technique and knowledge I possess pushes against the ordinary. My art is strong with all of this, for not only performing, but choreographing as well.
As a choreographer, my musical background aids in the creation of new and inventive ideas, sculpting how I create movement in collaboration with sound scores. With movements inspired by rhythms, both emphasizing and contradicting the sounds, my style brings out a theatrical sense of movement.
